Mobile Museum of Art’s new exhibition opening December 8, FOR CHILDREN: The Elements of Art & Design, is the first exhibition organized by the Mobile Museum of Art specifically designed for kids!
The exhibition presents a maze of galleries for children to experience immersive, creative and wacky visual environments. It is designed for fun—while teaching children the basic elements of creative art and design (Line, Texture, Color, Scale, and Shape)—as well as relationships between science and art. It includes hands-on experiences and photo opportunities (for parents and grandparents!).
A second installation for kids, Bob H. Miller: REFLECTORAMA, will also open in the Museum’s Education wing and combines the science of optics with dynamic art—which can only be experienced with flashlights.
The opening reception for these exhibitions on December 8 will be a daytime ticketed event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. also designed specifically for kids, and serve as a FUNdraiser for future children’s education programs at MMofA. Opening day will feature face painting, art activities, bouncy houses, kid-friendly food, and games. Presale tickets for Mobile Museum of Art members are $10 per person, and $25 per person for non-members. The last day to purchase tickets at the presale level is November 29, after which the price will increase to $35 per person for members and non-members.
This exhibition will open to the public the following Saturday, December 15, with general admission plus a special exhibition fee of $5 per person (applicable to FOR CHILDREN only).
FOR CHILDREN: The Elements of Art & Design is generously sponsored by several foundations, businesses and organizations in Mobile: The Crampton Trust, established by Katharine Cochrane Crampton, The Lott/Samford Family Charitable Foundation, Star Design Graphics of Mobile, and Bowden Architecture. The exhibition is conceived and organized by Museum director Deborah Velders and designed by Don Bowden Architecture with additional design assistance from Star Design Graphics
