CRAZY FOR THE RED, WHITE, & BLUE:

The Art of Celebration History

June 26 – July 22, 2018

The Mobile Museum of Art & Mobile Botanical Gardens are partnering to present a summer exhibition of art celebrating the RED, WHITE, & BLUE! Community members can particpate in this exhibition by attending one of the classes offered below and creating their own masterpieces. The exhibition, Crazy for the Red, White, and Blue: The Art of Celebration History, will be on view at the Mobile Museum of Art June 26 through July 22, 2018.

5/11 – 6/15 | FRIDAYS, 10 AM – 1 PM | BOTANICAL ART CLASS with Derek Norman at Mobile Botanical Gardens
A botanical art studio class designed for the student to create, during the six week class, a series of three individual botanical flower drawings/paintings. Each work will be inspired by a red, a white and a blue flower. And each student will have the opportunity to work in the medium of their choice—from graphite, colored pencil, gouache, watercolor, including English-dry brush to pen and colored inks. The resulting works will form the basis of an exhibition at the Mobile Museum of Art. This class is suitable for all levels.

6/7 | 4 – 7 pm | BOTANICAL SLAB CREATIONS with Angie King at MOBILE MUSEUM OF ART
Bring the whole family for this hands-on activity celebrating the Red, White, and Blue! Participants will use botanicals from the Mobile Botanical Garden to create impressions and decorations in clay slabs. The slabs will then be transformed into functional ware such as trays, vases, and wall hangings. The finishing touch will be to add red or blue underglaze to accent the texture of each piece. The resulting works will form the basis of an exhibition at the Mobile Museum of Art.
