Roberta Turner Newell creating art with kids The Education Department, in conjunction with SARIC (University of South Alabama Research and Inservice Center), is proud to present a Professional Development Workshop, Ink It Up. This two-session inservice, held from 9am until 3pm, will focus on calligraphy and silkscreen.

In the morning, teachers will enhance their skills in handwriting, as they learn a form of artistic expression that will excite students of all ages. The basics of calligraphy will be taught with a variety of materials and techniques. Several beautiful alphabets will be available for participants to explore and experiment with as projects are completed for personal or classroom use.

The afternoon session will feature a hands-on silk screening workshop. During this portion, participants will experience basic silk screening procedures and techniques, learn how to make inexpensive silk screen frames and create multiple copies of an original design. Printing on a variety of materials, from paper to canvas, simple images become works of art. This workshop is free, and available in mid May, educators may obtain a registration form on the SARIC website, www.southalabama.edu/saric. Participants will earn six Professional Development Hours.
