Art Museum Celebrates Art, Design of Mardi Gras

MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) Mardi Gras: That annual party that suddenly appears out of nowhere and turns Mobile into a fantasy world of revelry and royalty! Well, Mobile, it doesn’t just suddenly appear “out of nowhere.” It happened because of people like veteran float designer Edward Ladd. He is one of the thousands of people behind the art and design of Mardi Gras.
“They expect it,” he said, “and even the societies don’t appreciate all the time and effort and labor and thought that goes into these things.”
These “things” of which Edward speaks, are the floats and finery that define carnival. And now you can see more than 300 years of those efforts as Mobile’s history museum, carnival museum and art museum all come together to present “The Art and Design of Mardi Gras.” Read full article here>>
