Bring a friend and your favorite drink and and get ready to create a clay vase with a unique personality! We will build slab vases and add character with facial features, accessories, and funky patterns. No experience is needed and all supplies are included.

Paint your own happy place while exploring acrylic paint – create a landscape painting inspired by our collections own – Mark Rothko’s Untitled Landscape. You may paint from a photo, from your memory, or from your imagination. Bring in a photograph of a favorite or meaningful place, reflect on a memory you have of a special place, or use your imagination to create your own place in the world that means something special for you. Join us for an evening exploring wild, bright and bold colors through acrylic paint! No previous art experience required!

Artists have been creating still life art works since ancient times, a still life is a composition of things arranged by the artist for a variety of reasons from creating a pleasing combination of shapes, colors, and textures to more complex use of symbolism to narrate themes such as life and growth, or time and mortality. Bring in your own small items of significance or choose from a variety of items such as shells, flowers, and produce provided in class to curate your own still life. You will be guided through the art of still life painting from setting up a symbolic still life, arranging an interesting composition, to application and processes of acrylic painting. No previous art experience required!

 

Creating a Clay Totem with Lana Hall

Have you ever wanted to create something out of clay, but didn’t know how to or had to rely on molds and props only? This project oriented class will give you necessary concepts of hand-building to make any idea of a form into a reality. In just five days we will cover basic methods, shapes, and how to combine and alter them to make your unique designs. We will cover design, composition, and some mechanical aspects to make a beautiful statement piece. At the end of this class you will have an original totem to decorate your home or garden with. This class is great for beginner clay enthusiasts as well as artists, who want a boost of creativity and liberty in their creations.

Bring a friend, partner, parent, or neighbor, and create something on the pottery wheel during one (or more) of our single-night sessions. No experience is necessary; just come with a friend and an open mind. Everyone will get a chance to make 2 – 3 pieces on the wheel. They will be glazed for you, and you will pick up your finished pieces at a later date.

Open Clay Studio

Open Clay Studio is available for Mobile Museum of Art members only.

$25 per month + $15 per session attended

Enjoy extra time to work on your own projects during this uninstructed Open Studio time. Clay, glazes, and pottery wheels will be available.

Reservations must be made 24 HOURS in advance to reserve a spot. Call or email Curator of Art Education, Angie King at 251.208.5205 or at angela.king@mobilemuseumofart.com. **Students MUST have prior experience with clay and be able to work unassisted.**
