Create your own printable work of art as you learn printmaking with the screen-print process. In this one-afternoon workshop, participants will learn the photo-emulsion screen printing process. In this process, photographic images can be placed on screens and printed on any number of surfaces, including paper and fabrics. Feel free to bring a t-shirt or a canvas tote bag if you would like to print your design on something wearable. Participants will be supplied with pre-coated screens ready to expose, and no previous printmaking experience is necessary.

Bring a friend, partner, parent, or neighbor, and create something on the pottery wheel during one (or more) of our single-night sessions. No experience is necessary; just come with a friend and an open mind. Everyone will get a chance to make 2 – 3 pieces on the wheel. They will be glazed for you, and you will pick up your finished pieces at a later date.

Teens will love learning the art of black-and-white film photography. During week one, students will shoot film on plastic Holga-style cameras, developing and creating contact prints. In week two, students will learn to create black-and-white prints from their own negatives. Weeks three and four will allow students to hone their shooting and printing skills. Students will emerge with a good understanding of photographic composition and darkroom skills.

Discover the magic of the darkroom and create beautiful black and white photographic prints that will last for years to come. This course will cover how to make prints in a darkroom from black-and-white film negatives. Students will learn the entire printing process, from working with an enlarger and chemicals to the end result of finished prints. Students can bring their own negatives or use negatives provided by the teacher. All supplies are included in the cost of the class.

Learning to Draw & Drawing to Learn with Derek Norman

If you have longed to know the secrets of “how to draw,” then this class is for you! From absolute beginners to those who want a refresher course on the skills they already have, this course will increase your visual communication skills. Beginning with basic techniques the class will progress to analytical understanding of structure, value, dimension, and composition.

Each week the class will focus on a different subject. Some of the topics that will be covered include proportions of the human face, perspective, understanding value, portraiture, botanical drawings, and using basic shapes to bring objects to life.

A supply list will be provided upon registration.

• Utilize the hand sanitizer provided throughout the museum.
• Maintain a 6 to 10 ft distance from other visitors.

Open Clay Studio

Open Clay Studio is available for Mobile Museum of Art members only.

$25 per month + $15 per session attended

Enjoy extra time to work on your own projects during this uninstructed Open Studio time. Clay, glazes, and pottery wheels will be available.

Reservations must be made 24 HOURS in advance to reserve a spot. Call or email Curator of Art Education, Angie King at 251.208.5205 or at **Students MUST have prior experience with clay and be able to work unassisted.**
