In this course, we will learn what a ceramic glaze is, what its components are, and how they are combined to create a glaze. We will have several opportunities to test each glaze component and discover its unique properties and use that knowledge to create a glaze tailored specifically for your pieces. Supplies included.

Encaustic Workshop with Julie Snidle

Encaustic is an ancient beeswax-based paint that is both versatile and extremely forgiving. This workshop offers students a thorough foundation for painting with this fascinating medium along with studio time for exploring a wide range of mixed media that is compatible with wax. We’ll cover safety, tools and materials, painting and fusing, and focus on encaustic’s unique characteristics such as temperature, adhesion, and malleability. Image transfers, collage, Pan Pastels, and oil paints are just some of the techniques that will be covered. Encaustic paintings “dry” quickly so be prepared to work on or complete as many as 8-10 paintings in our two days together. Supply list will be provided upon registration.

Learning to Draw & Drawing to Learn with Derek Norman

If you have longed to know the secrets of “how to draw,” then this class is for you! From absolute beginners to those who want a refresher course on the skills they already have, this course will increase your visual communication skills. Beginning with basic techniques the class will progress to analytical understanding of structure, value, dimension, and composition.

Each week the class will focus on a different subject. Some of the topics that will be covered include proportions of the human face, perspective, understanding value, portraiture, botanical drawings, and using basic shapes to bring objects to life.

A supply list will be provided upon registration.

• Utilize the hand sanitizer provided throughout the museum.

Try something that you have always wanted to do by learning to throw clay on the pottery wheel! This six-week class is for brand-new students with no previous experience. Students will learn the basics of how to center, throw, and glaze clay, resulting in unique functional pieces such as bowls, cups, and vases. Friends and family will be impressed with your new skills!


Open Clay Studio

$25 per month + $15 per session attended

Enjoy extra time to work on your own projects during this uninstructed Open Studio time. Clay, glazes, and pottery wheels will be available.
