Come join us for a 3 hour family fun drawing class where we will explore a variety of drawing materials such as chalk and oil pastels, watercolor pencils and more! Our inspiration for our artwork is Biloxi native Dusti Bonge’s Fantastic Beast watercolor painting. Create your own Fantastical Beast through guided drawing strategies for every age of learner, no art experience required!

Handbuilt Clay Plate with Decorative Carving With Lana Hall

Come join us for a fun two-day project class on the method of sgraffito. Instructor and ceramic artist Lana Hall will guide you through the process of hand-building functional plates, application of underglaze and glazes, creating effective composition, all while mastering the best mark-making, and exploring your creativity. The class could be a wonderful opportunity for spending quality time and creating a memory for families with children ages 6+, so no prior experience is needed.

Mirror, Mirror, Monoprinting with Kaitlyn Amanor

Join us for a 3 hour family fun printmaking class! We will study the artistic process of monoprinting by creating a series of abstract, nature, self-portraits, and animal prints. Monoprints are great ways for artists to create unique pieces of art. Using mirrors, gel plates, paint and more we will explore the art of monoprinting in a variety of ways leaving you several pieces of unique artwork to take home.

 

Family Art

This class is for families to create together. Each month will feature a different art medium with a project tied to the MMofA collection. Parents are encouraged to stay and create with their families. Suitable for homeschool families.

Summer Art Camps

MMofA’s art camps offer in-depth art knowledge with fun hands-on art activities for ages 5 – 16. Taught by trained art professionals, each class is customized by age group to explore concepts relating to the elements and principles of art, famous artists, and the MMofA museum collection. Tours in the galleries — including FOR CHILDREN: The Elements of Art & Design and Fantastical Forest — enhance students’ understanding and allow for fun interactive experiences.

All camps will run Monday through Friday with the exception of June 20-23, which falls on Juneteenth. To fit into your busy summer schedule, campers can register for the morning session (9 a.m. – noon), the afternoon session (1 – 4 p.m.), or the full-day session (9 a.m. – 4 p.m.).

Teen Painting

Tuesdays, March 7, 14, 21, 28, April 4, 11  (6-week course) 

$100 members | $115 non-members
4-6 p.m.
Ages 12+

This class introduces students to watercolor painting, acrylic painting and oil painting basics. We will dive into color theory, portraiture, landscape art and still life with a variety of painting materials. Students will explore grisaille painting, glazing, and resist techniques as well as different approaches to painting, such as Alla Prima and en Plein Air. Students will learn how to build a canvas frame, and stretch and prime their own canvases for their artwork.

Students should bring a photo reference of something they would like to paint. In this course, students will learn to paint from life, from a reference, and explore conceptual versus perceptual art.
