Pre-register or walk in to get creative with MMofA’s Make & Take. In this class, we will explore a variety of art materials, processes, and techniques inspired by artists currently on view. Join us for a session in the studio for an opportunity to explore art materials and get creative with MMofA.

Session 1: 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.
Session 2: 2:00 – 3:00 p.m.


Thursday, June 6, 2024: Kitchen Sink Screen Prints

This week in Make and Take Studio, visitors are inspired by artist on view Ida Kohlmeyer’s Mythic Print in designing their own screen print using an every day grocery store material – freezer paper! This easy process is family friendly and chemical free. Join us to explore screen printing and abstract art by creating your own printed image layering a variety of colors, shapes and lines to design your image.


Thursday, June 13, 2024: Exploring Primaries and Paints

This week in Make and Take Studio, visitors are inspired by artist on view Harold Shapinsky’s use of color and shape in creating a painting on paper. Visitors will be guided in instruction exploring color mixing and composition in creating a unique painting.


Thursday, June 20, 2024: Drawing in Chalk

Join us this week in our Make and Take Studio class for guided instruction on drawing with chalk pastels. Visitors are inspired by artist on view Hobson Pittman’s Flower Still Life with Blue Vase in creating a drawing exploring chalk pastel techniques. Visitors will be guided in instruction exploring color mixing and composition in creating a unique drawing.


Thursday, July 11, 2024: Post War Inspired Prints

Join us this week in our Make and Take Studio class for guided instruction to create a foam relief print inspired by the design elements seen in fashion, textiles, and home décor throughout the 1930’s-1950’s. Visitors will explore geometric and organic designs made popular in Post WWII fashion and textiles to create their own foam printed artwork on paper.

Family Art

This class is for families to create together. Each month will feature a different art medium with a project tied to the MMofA collection. Parents are encouraged to stay and create with their families. Suitable for homeschool families.


Thursday, April 25, 2024: Spring Nature Painting

Join us in the studio to celebrate Earth Day by exploring your senses through planet friendly painting. Artists will use organic materials such as spices, flowers, and select foods to make their own watercolors and create a nature inspired watercolor painting.


Thursday, May 30, 2024: Surreal Scratch Art

Families are invited to dive into their subconscious through exploring automatism, a technique of creating made popular during the Surrealist art movement which involves creating without any conscious decision making in the process. Visitors will be guided in several exercises and games used by artists to explore their subconscious, then artists will use their findings as inspiration to create a finished artwork using drawing tools to create a surreal scratch art drawing.

Toddler Time

Join us for single sessions of sensory-based art projects designed especially for toddlers and preschool children. Toddler Time is open to children ages 1 through 5.


Thursday, April 11, 2024: Painted Leaf Mobiles & Upcycled Abstracts

This week, we explore using natural materials and recycling with two art projects. With gathered leaves and sticks, explore paints and nature to create a painted leaf mobile, then we will use a variety of recycled craft materials to create a unique abstract art made from recycled materials.


Thursday, May 9, 2024: Mother’s Day Picasso Flowers on Canvas

Littles will experiment with tracing, painting, and stamping to create an artwork inspired by Picasso’s Bouquet of Peace.
