Dr. Robert and Jean Steele will present a special lecture in the Regional Gallery on the current exhibition, Celebrating African American Art. The topic of their lecture: “Tips on collecting African American Art”, will focus on the processes that the Steele’s have honed over a lifetime of in-depth study and support of their favorite African American artists.
Celebrating African American Art, now on view in MMofA’s Regional Gallery, includes selections from the Mobile Museum of Art’s own collection of works by African American artists presented alongside promised gifts from the Collection of Jean and Robert E. Steele. Mobile native Dr. Robert E. Steele is currently retired from his position as Executive Director of renowned David C. Driskell Center at the University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland. The Driskell Center focuses on presenting and collecting works of African American Art and the African diaspora.
