For a Sunday afternoon encore presentation, designer Ron Barrett is coming back to unpack our native tradition of tableau, and his decidedly unique role of storytelling in Mobile Mardi Gras culture. As a major contributor to the Art and Design of Mardi Gras exhibition, Barrett will share his thoughts on his own installation of work in the exhibition, and talk through the specificity of setting a stage for short-term royalty. He will delve into his extensive knowledge of the history of Mardi Gras, how war has changed carnival traditions, and how the balls in Mobile are singularly unparalleled.
