Join us at the Mobile Museum of Art for a day of free family activities celebrating our new exhibitions. With musical and interactive dance performances by Deborah Ferguson aka The Dancing Story Lady and Gloria Petit Williams, all ages are invited to explore themes of African American identity in the MMofA photography exhibition, Posing Beauty in African American Identity.

Adults and teens are invited to try their hand at alternative photographic printing processes with artist Rachel Wright in MMofA’s Education wing. All activities are free, with free admission to MMofA for Mobile County residents. A food truck will also be available throughout the day. Please see below for a full schedule of activities.

10 – 11 am: Meet Deborah Ferguson in the Posing Beauty exhibition for a moving performance of poetry and music, both published and original. ALL AGES.

10 am – 2 pm: Explore alternative photographic printing processes with artist Rachel Wright. Drawing inspiration from Wright’s work in MMofA’s do it exhibition, participants will create cyanotypes and lumen prints without the use of a camera. This is sure to be an exercise in creativity! AGES 13 & UP

11 – 11:15 am: Snack Break in the Lakefront Lobby (fruit, cookies, & lemonade provided)

12 – 2 pm: Lunch – Food Truck available or BYO

1 – 1:40 pm: Join Gloria Petit Williams in Larkins for an interactive, umbrella dance routine

1:40 – 2 pm: Gloria will lead the group from Larkins into the Posing Beauty exhibition and around the gallery in a second line dance celebration

MMofA’s Family Festival Day is made possible in part by Alabama State Council on the Arts.
