HANDS-ON WORKSHOPS:

MAKING CONNECTIONS with Nancy Raia, Community Arts Director – Eastern Shore Art Center

Participants will use mixed media to create a sculptural piece that illustrates how to blend lessons on ancestry, other cultures, and writing skills as we create a tribute to Easter Island. Symmetry and balance will be the focal points in our innovative (and inexpensive!) way to create a lesson on a dark background. We may include the themes of shapes of vessels from different eras of history as a spring point, even making connections with botany: identifying parts of a flower and flower shapes and types.

FULL ’STEAM’ AHEAD! with Paige Vitulli, Associate Professor Leadership & Teacher Education – University of South Alabama

From the art, science, and symbolism of the Egyptian scarab beetle to the engineering and math of constructing a platform from pasta, join us to explore various resources and activities appropriate for kindergarten to college that integrate the ARTS with the STEM content areas. Go “Full STEAM Ahead” with authentic, integrated and innovative activities our students will be engaged in and motivated by!
