9 – 9:20 AM: Sign in and refreshments

9:20 – 9:30 AM: Welcome, announcements, and introduction in APL Classroom

9:30 – 10:15 AM: Tour of All American exhibition, Deborah Velders, Director, Mobile Museum of Art

10:15 – 11 AM: Inspired by Art: Hands-on Creative Writing in the Galleries (Cochrane Gallery, Presenter: Kim Wood) Participants will consider American paintings and sculptures from an historical and personal perspective to draw inspiration for a descriptive paragraph, a narrative paragraph and a short imaginative essay. This assignment may be used to enhance a variety of disciplines, while engaging each student’s individual view of the world.

11 AM – 12:15 PM: Lunch on your own

12:15 – 12:25 PM: Relax in Jane Cassidy: The Undersea Well, Restroom break

12:25 – 12:30 PM: Monica Beasley introduction in Front & Center Gallery

12:30 – 1:15 PM: Tour Monica J. Beasley: Feminism & Magical Thinking

1:15 – 2:45 PM: The Art of Monica J. Beasley: ‘Feminism and Magical Thinking’ Abstract Collages (APL Classroom, Presenter: Monica J. Beasley) Well-known for her colorful, abstract collages, Monica J. Beasley will go behind the inspiration for her exhibition at MMofA and, using a variety of materials, help participants create their own abstract collages, illustrating how creating a collage can tie in to any curriculum.
