Japanese Immersion Weekend: Sumi-e Demonstration
Sponsored by Ikebana Society and Mitsubishi Polysilicon
November 2, 2017 – November 5, 2017
Mobile Museum of Art is excited to present Japanese Immersion Weekend in early November! This four-day event is aimed at exploring aspects of Japanese culture through engagement in various traditional activities and screenings of critically-acclaimed films.
November 3 @ 3 p.m.
Terri Baker will lead a Sumi-e demonstration. Sumi-e, meaning “ink painting” in Japanese, is a form of calligraphy and drawing originating from East Asia. The goal of sumi-e painting is to capture the spirit rather than the semblance of the subject while focusing on balance, rhythm, harmony, and most importantly, patience.
