Spring Lecture - The Harlem Renaissance, An Emerging Opportunity @ Mobile Museum of Art

Presented by Dr. Robert Bantens

Our regular spring lecture series, on one Thursday afternoon a month from March through May, includes a variety of topics focused on the exhibition, Celebrating African American Art. Each lecture begins at 2 p.m. and features local art historian and longtime MMofA supporter, Dr. Robert Bantens.

  • Thursday, March 27 – The Harlem Renaissance, An Emerging Opportunity
  • Thursday, April 17 – Academic and Folk Art: Opposition and Interchange
  • Thursday, May 15 – The Importance of the Robert and Jean Steele Promised Gift

The lectures are free of charge with museum admission and always free for museum members. Lightweight and portable gallery benches will be made available during the presentation. Coffee and light refreshments will be available by donation. Reservations are encouraged and can be made by contacting Howard McPhail at 251.208.5205 or emailing howard.mcphail@mobilemuseumofart.com.

As always, we thank Dr. Bantens for his generous gifts of knowledge and inspiration.  We are deeply appreciative of him for all he has done for the Mobile Museum of Art.  He is truly, in Chaucer’s words, the perfect scholar, “Gladly would he learn and gladly teach.”
