Art and History in Alabama: Every Picture Tells a Story

Presented by Mobile Museum of Art Museum School & South Alabama Research and Inservice Center
Earn 6 Professional Development credit hours

March 10  |  9 am – 3 pm

Agenda:

9-9:30am: Welcome to the Museum with coffee, camaraderie and an exploration of the Education Wing
9:30-11:15am: Choose your workshop:

  • Painting with the Elements (APL Classroom, Presenter: Terri Baker) Participants will use real Alabama clay and indigenous plants to create paintings of extraordinary depth and beauty. Many “outsider” artists in Alabama have employed this technique, as some lacked the funds for art supplies! Students and teachers love this activity–so easy to adapt in the classroom to any lesson plan.
  • Printmaking with Map Skills (Delchamps Classroom, Presenter: Susan Baker) Many Alabama artists are well-known for printmaking of all types. In this workshop, participants will create original plates using student-friendly techniques. Combining colorful printmaking with map and literacy skills, this activity can enhance a variety of lesson plans.

11:15am-12pm: Gallery Talk by Dr. Elliot Knight, Visual Arts Program Manager at the AL State Council on the Arts and Curator of “Alabama Art-From the Collection”
12-1:15pm: Lunch on your own (Choose among a variety of nearby restaurants)
1:15-3pm: Choose the other workshop
3pm: Raffle, Evaluations, Certificates and Shop at the Museum Store
