SUMMARY:Holiday Market & Open House
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the holidays at Mobile Museum of Art’s Holiday Market & Open House! Join Mobile Museum of Art for an afternoon of local shopping\, live music\, food trucks\, art activities\, and free admission to the Museum.\n \nVendors will be offering a variety of handmade items\, such as jewelry\, pottery\, self-care products\, and more. Enjoy live\, local music\, and tasty treats will be available from a variety of food trucks. \nDuring the Open House\, the whole family can gather in our Education Wing to decorate clay ornaments together. Plus\, Muffinjaw Designs will be on-site for visitors to watch live glassblowing. \nThe Museum will also have galleries full of masterworks by renowned artists in special exhibitions\, including: \n\nJUAN LOGAN: Without Stopping\, a special exhibition by internationally celebrated artist Juan Logan\, titled Without Stopping\, which features an epic commissioned painting of the same name. The 6 ½ by 16-foot composition is Logan’s response to his learning about the people and histories of Africatown.\nVuzumazulu: The Black Solarium — An Abantu Cultural Expose by Abaddon “Apollo” Ben Yakongo: Step into Vuzumazulu: The Black Solarium\, a mystical journey through time and heritage that awakens the soul. This exhibition unveils the hidden stories of Africa’s past\, reconnecting us to the profound depth of Abantu culture.\nCRYPTIC UNDER WING: Glass and Mixed Media by Rachel Wright: This exhibition utilizes glass\, photographs\, and textiles to create sculptural work about the natural world. Through her exploration of the Delta and the surrounding area\, Rachel explores the relationship between the local rivers\, lakes\, and creeks and the organisms that reside within and in tangent to them.\nThe family-favorite installation\, Fantastical Forest. This interactive installation explores the intersection where nature and art meet. It was designed by local artist Lucy Gafford with the help of Ben Kaiser and Vanessa Quintana.\n\nAdmission to the Museum will be free all day in addition to the afternoon activities. \n\nIF YOU REGISTER TO MAKE AN ORNAMENT\, KEEP IN MIND: \n\nOrnaments are $50 a piece.\nBookings will be made in 15-minute slots. Once those are full\, we will not be able to add any other times\, so we recommend registering sooner rather than later.\nOnly one glass pumpkin can be made in a 15-minute slot. Therefore\, if you have more than one member in your party and would like to make more than one ornament\, you must book a slot for each person in your party who will be making a pumpkin.\nPlease arrive early for your appointment. Due to the number of participants\, we will not be able to hold your time slot if you arrive after the start of your reservation.\nAfter your piece is finished\, it takes an hour for the glass to anneal and cool off enough to take home. We invite everyone to participate in the other market activities\, watch others blow their glass pieces\, and enjoy the Museum for the rest of the event.\nIf you cannot stay to pick up your piece\, please speak with one of the Museum team members during the event to arrange a later pick-up.\nMMoA will not be able to provide refunds for cancellations prior to the event and/or for no-shows.
