Something big is coming to Mobile Museum of Art this fall! Mark your calendar for GATEWAY: From Graffiti to Gallery. We are proud to be the first and only venue for this blockbuster exhibition, which will bring five of the art world’s biggest stars to our community. This exclusive, year-long event, presented in collaboration with Masterworks and Level & Co Gallery, launches September 1, 2026, and is set to turn our city into a destination for art lovers everywhere. Featuring 28 significant works, our galleries will trace the journey from street art pioneers Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, and Kenny Scharf and set the stage for two of today’s leading voices, Banksy and KAWS.

About the Exhibition

From the tunnels of New York’s subway system to the walls of international galleries, GATEWAY: From Graffiti to Gallery charts how five artists formalized unauthorized acts of self-expression into an artistic language that commands institutional recognition.

From Basquiat’s cryptic script, Haring’s energetic subway drawings, and Scharf’s pop surrealism, to KAWS’ advertising interventions, and Banksy’s political stencils, the exhibition creates a dialogue between the raw immediacy, public accessibility, and cultural commentary that define these artists’ origins in graffiti.
