Mobile Museum of Art Awarded Grant from

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama for Free Thursday Admission

MOBILE, Ala. – On February 1, 2023, the Mobile Museum of Art (MMofA) received a grant from the Caring Foundation of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama to offer free general admission to all Alabamians every Thursday from March 1, 2023, through May 31, 2023.

For the past ten years, MMofA has offered free general admission on Thursdays for Mobile County residents only. With the help of The Caring Foundation of Blue Cross, the Free Thursday program will now offer residents of the state of Alabama waived general admissions fees to the Museum on Thursdays.

In the past two years, more than 5,000 Alabamians visited the Museum on Thursdays. From Fiscal Year 2021 (October 1, 2020, through September 30, 2021) to Fiscal Year 2022 (October 1, 2021, through September 30, 2022), MMofA saw a 40.59% increase in attendance in Alabamians on Free Thursdays.

“We are grateful to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama for this opportunity to share the fantastic artwork at MMofA with more Alabamians,” Mayor Sandy Stimpson said. “We hope visitors from surrounding communities and beyond will take advantage of this program and come see the engaging and educational exhibitions on display this Spring.”

Free Thursdays for Mobile County residents are made possible with the support of the City of Mobile and Mobile County. The Museum’s exhibitions and programs are supported by The Alabama State Council on the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts and the City of Mobile. For more details, visit www.MobileMuseumofArt.com.
